Two days of pure mountain bike action on the best trails of Janjehli Valley, surrounded spectacular scenery.
Our famous Himalayan Trails n Dust Mountain Bike Challenge is going on since last 7 years. Manali and Kullu have been the main venues for this race. However this year Himachal Tourism invited our team to conduct this race in a new off-beat location called Janjehli.
This unique mountain bike race took racers through the scenic Janjehli Valley which is full of cascading streams, soothing greenery and epic trails. The mountain bike race course went through a wide variety of terrain which was challenging for even the most experienced racers.
Janjehli is a tranquil and calm town which comes under Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Lush green meadows covered with pine and deodar trees, brilliant farms and epic scenery with river is visible all the time. In other words – Janjehli is perfect for any nature lover who wants to get away from regular tourist spots and spend some time in peace.
Our team explored the hidden trails of this area for the planned mountain bike race which took place on 10th and 11th June 2017.
45 mountain bikers from Manali, Kullu, Lahaul, Bir, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Goa reported with their bikes and were ready for 2 days of adventure.
The race was flagged off from the school ground Janjehli’s SDM Mr. Ashwini Kumar who is an adventure enthusiast himself and understands the sport. Mr. Kumar is the first SDM of the area and has contributed a lot to enhance the tourism here.
RACE DAY 1 – Janjehli to Gada Gushaini
The first day of the race was pretty interesting yet demanding as it had long demanding climbs. The downhill sections were equally fun to compensate the climbs and all the riders liked that.
Total riding distance for Day 1 was 45 Km out of which 36.78 Km were included in competitive stage which finished at Chachgalu Village.
The valley view from this village made everybody forgot the struggle and sweat. The downhill to the camp site from here was chilled out.
Gada Gushaini is another off-beat location which is nothing but peaceful. One finds nature at its best offering beautiful surroundings, green forests and pollution free environment.
The campsite was in the middle of the town where all the riders had a great evening around the bon-fire which helped them to prepare for day 2.
The second day total riding distance was 23 Km only out of which 18 Km was competitive stage. But this was not easy at all.
The race started with rain and a short lived climb later switched to Bike-n-Hike section from Haripur Village. This section was demanding as one had to hike up with his bike to highest point at around 9600 Ft above sea level.
But the fun starts here. The trail after the hike section was technical but rideable for most of the riders. The remaining race descended to the finish line at Ghumrala. Surprisingly everybody finished the race without any issues and on time.
The joy ride back to Janjehli was good fun where everybody was welcomed with traditional methods and music.
The prize ceremony was held in-front of the huge crowd which had come over from surrounding areas also.
Devender Kumar from Kullu won the Himalayan Trails n Dust Janjehli followed Shiven from Lahaul and Rahul Thakur from Manali.
The winners were given cash prizes of INR 25,000 INR 15,000 and INR 10,000 each. This also attracted the young boys from the village who now wants to try mountain biking and participate in races all around.
Conducting a mountain bike race in Janjehli was a great experience for our team and all the participants.
The next Himalayan Trails n Dust Mountain Bike Challenge will be held during 4th Himalayan Mountain Bike Festival (12th to 15th October 2017) in Manali.
